Absence of Tim for the most part in her childhood
We know that Tim Allen and his first wife, Laura Deibel, were in a relationship since their university days at Western Michigan. After that, he went through a dark period. He got arrested for drugs which led to a sizable brunt to his image. But Laura waited for his release and married him in 1984.
Five years later, Katherine Kady Allen was born. But it was the period when Tim’s career as an artist took heights upward. So naturally, he was away for most of his life. However, that put a blotch on his marriage to Laura. She had to raise her child and maintain the house for the most part.

Just four days after the premiere, they had filed for a divorce. Indeed, he felt that he let his family slide.
